At the Honolulu Marathon in 1978, Nike quietly tested the first model to feature Air technology, an advent that was conceived by NASA engineer Frank Rudy. Without the Nike Air Tailwind 79, we would not have Nike’s famous Air Max range. The Tailwind featured a small bag of compressed air inside the heel, which was later shown to the world as “Visible Air “ in the Air Max 1. Later Tailwind models followed like the Tailwind 2, 3, 4 and 5. Key colorways include the Nike x Stranger Things “Upside Down” and “Hawkins High” versions.
